What is the best café in Dalsland?

There are many cozy cafes in Dalsland. Here is a list of some that you can pick up on the way from the flea market. Some of them may be worth a trip of their own. Which is your favorite? Feel free to get in touch with tips for Dalsland Guiden!

  1. Flickans Pastry Shop in Åmål

Flickans is a traditional and professional patisserie in central Åmål. Here you will find high quality pastries but also a wealth of ideas. Flickans is a dear reminder of the Swedish patisserie culture that in many places has been displaced by invasive, trend-conscious café chains molded in the same boring mold.

  2. Kafé Schuckert in Långed

Kafe Schuckert can be Dalsland's nicest coffee shop. The atmosphere breathes popular movement, perhaps because that's exactly what it is. The business is run by a non-profit community. Here you can attend seminars, listen to live music, learn handicrafts and of course enjoy a "fika" - affordable and homemade of course.

  3. Nössemark Camping Café and Restaurant

The name does not sound so remarkable but the business is anything but boring. At Nössemark camping you can drink IPA, and get good vegan food and delicious pastries. The place is more reminiscent of a hipster hang out than a typical camping. Every summer, live gigs are arranged with everything from karaoke to Chilean prog. Definitely one of Dalsland's hot spots.

  4. Café Smör & Socker in Ed

The pastries at Café Smör och Socker (Swedish for butter and sugar) are exactly what the name suggests - extra everything! Here you can get a cinnamon bun with cream and vanilla cream - a bit like a semla. You will also find several home-baked classics such as kärleksmums and rouladetårta. If you are hungry, there are sandwiches with meatballs, shrimp and more!

  5. Kickis Café in Bengtsfors

Kicki's café is the perfect way to round off your shopping trip in Bengtsfors. It offers pies, hot sandwiches, waffles, ice cream, pastries and also have an espresso machine witch is uncommon in Dalsland. The environment is a bit noisy but cozy.

  6. Elma's Café & Bageri in Brålanda

Elmas Café has its own bakery that makes sourdough bread, baguettes and pastries. Here you can order a sandwich cake for your party. And there are rumors that Elmas will soon open another café in Mellerud!

  7. Ed's second kiosk in Håbol

A classic ice cream kiosk built after a model from 1929. Cozy place and beautiful place to pause during the flea market tour, on the road between Bengtsfors and Ed. Here you can also buy local honey from Håbol. The ice cream is organic and premium from Pipers in Hamburgsund. In the summer of 2025, an art gallery will also open here.

  8. The Gula Villans café in Dals Rostock

In the historic spa town of Dals Rostock at Kroppefjäll there is an idyllic summer café. In the old doctor's office in Gula Villan you can enjoy waffles, sandwiches and cakes in a leafy garden setting. Well worth a trip!

  9. Upperud 9:9 in Åsens Bruk

Upperud 9:9 is primarily a hotel with a restaurant, but it's also a great place to have a coffee. Even though it's in the countryside, it feels like you're in the big city. Large outdoor terrace with a view of the water. Everything is very professional and neat. Well worth a detour.

  10. Ekholmen Café & Farm Shop outside Mellerud

A rural gem with a farm shop, where you can have a coffee with a view of the Dalsland landscape. The ingredients are local and the menu follows the seasons. Here you can also buy crafts, honey and souvenirs. An oasis in the middle of the oasis we call Dalsland.

  11. Not Quite Café and Bistro in Fengersfors

A café in the middle of the creative cluster Not Quite. Here you can enjoy organic and homemade coffee while being inspired by art, design and crafts in an old industrial environment. And surely the coffee is at least as important as the art when choosing a museum? At Not Quite you get the best of both.

  12. Cafe Bonaparte at Dalsland Art Museum

At Dalsland Museum you will find a café with a fantastic view. It is said that Napoleon was there once. Hence the name, Cafe Bonaparte. Here you can buy waffles and berry pies. They also have a wide lunch selection with everything from Falafel platter to priogs, pizza and pies.
